Client: Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust
Value: £17M
As part of the Project Oriel with Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust, we were brought on board for the development of a new health care centre forming part of the NHS Trust’s “St Pancras Transformation Programme”. The building will function as a community centre to provide mental health support for day patients.
Occupant comfort levels and wellbeing were central to the Greater London Authority planning requirements at RIBA stage 2. To fulfil the requirements, Carbon Plan Engineering conducted a complete BREEAM and achieved and ‘Excellent’ rating. The building's feature curtain wall meant designing for future thermal comfort was a crucial aspect. Solar shading was incorporated into the design to mitigate excessive solar gains and limit the building’s dependence on energy-intensive mechanical ventilation and cooling.
The project focused on achieving low carbon measures through passive design, operational energy analysis and the installation of LZC technologies.
